Even though it is situated in Southern Transylvania, the Greek-Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas in the village of Sâmbăta de Sus is in the Wallachian style. Initially an Orthodox church, it was founded in 1700 by Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu. Its model was the chapel of the Mogoșoaia Palace that lies close to Bucharest. The Wallachian coat of arms is carved above the entrance door of the narthex. The church has a rectangular shape and thick walls. The original murals painted by Preda of Câmpulung have been preserved to this day.
